Villa Maria Bed & Breakfast is an ideal starting point for exploring the natural mountain environment of the Isarco Valley. Only 300 metres away from the Villa Maria is the modern cable car stationwhich transports you up to the Rosskopf trekking and leisure activity area. There you will find a variety of superb walking trails. Many of the small friendly farms on the high mountain pastures offer you the chance to try a variety of South Tyrolean home-made products. This natural alpine world, which lies just off the main alpine ridge, is a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Centuries-old mining tradition in the Vipiteno (Sterzing) area
For centuries the alpine region south of the Brenner Pass was characterised by mining. At the beginning of the 16th century Vipiteno became very wealthy from the profits accrued from the silver deposits. The trading family of Fugger operated the mine at the beginning of the modern era. The 800 year history of the regional mining is well presented at the Schneeberg exhibition in Ridnaun. Take a trip on the pit railway and experience at first hand the difficult conditions the miners had to endure, in the past, while mining for iron-ore.
